BOTANICAL PAINTING ON CLAY WITH GUEST ARTIST FIONA HISCOCK
$140
Sunday March 22nd 1.30 pm - 5 pm
We are very excited to welcome Fiona Hiscock to teach this Sunday afternoon workshop. Fiona is a Melbourne-based ceramicist whose practice is grounded in direct observation of nature. Through repeated visits to familiar landscapes, she studies seasonal change, biodiversity, and regeneration, particularly within remnant urban bushland. Her practice involves making watercolour studies of plants and birds and transposing this imagery onto over-scaled, hand-built ceramic vessels. Her work reflects a deep connection to land, clay, and habitat, and acknowledges the impacts colonisation. Through her work, Fiona hopes to share her reverence for the natural world and invite others to notice the delicate balance of these ecosystems. Clay, as her chosen material, symbolises earth, growth, and a feminine, domestic lineage.
In this workshop, you will:
Be inspired by a slideshow of Fiona’s work.
Create your own watercolour study of a natural subject..
Learn to transfer your design onto clay using Fiona’s techniques.
Materials are provided, including paper, up to two porcelain tiles per participant, watercolours, brushes, and tools. If you would like to bring your own bisque fired vessel (thrown or hand-built but not to big) please do. Fiona will guide you step-by-step, helping you bring your nature-inspired design to life on clay. Your work will then be fired and ready to collect 2-3 weeks later (or maybe sooner!)
